Vilvam also called as Bilva in English is a big tree mostly grown in Shiva temples as it is considered as most sacred and lovable by Lord Shiva. Vilva Fruits are dried well, removed its skins and the inner parts are available as raw fruits. It can be consumed, and also can be used as a ingredient in making Siddha, Ayurveda medicines as mentioned in our ancient books. 

It can also be used as a Ahuthi while doing Homam as per Shaivik traditions.
